Mary R. Davidsaver's debut is a treasure. Shelley Anderson is a young college grad hoping to escape the small town of Bishop Hill, IL (loosely based on the real historical landmark, Bishop Hill), but when she comes home for a summer job at the new art museum, a sudden murder implicates her family, risks her job, and puts everything she loves in jeopardy. Shelley finds herself sucked into solving the mystery of why Herb Anderson was murdered, what Curt Hemcourt V is hiding about his family's famous portrait by Olof Krans, and what Pearl Essie is pursuing under the sign of a cross in the sky. Shelley is smart, sharp-tongued, quick-witted, and keeps her head as the pressure of even more mysteries come to bear: just what is Uncle Roy up to?
